At eight8, I believe in the power of connection. A heartfelt conversation, a transformative experience, or a place that feels like home—these moments bring us closer to what truly matters.

Connection is also about care: for ourselves, for others, and for the planet. While not every destination or experience I share will have a sustainability story, when they do, I promise to try and highlight them simply, clearly, and authentically.

I am not a sustainability expert, but I am curious, thoughtful, and always learning. By sharing stories of people and projects working towards positive change, I hope to inspire you to connect in your own way and, together, perhaps we might create ripples of meaningful impact.

  • Supporting local businesses, choosing eco-friendly options when possible, or simply connecting with nature are all ways to make a positive impact.

  • Sustainability focuses on reducing harm for future generations. Regeneration takes it a step further, actively repairing and improving the planet for the future.

  • Businesses with this certification are committed to balancing profit with purpose, prioritising community and environmental well-being.

  • These efforts restore natural ecosystems, whether by conserving resources or reintroducing native species to create healthier habitats.

  • When misleading or false claims are made about the environmental benefits of a service or product, this is known as Greenwashing.

    Marketing practices must be robust and transparent to ensure that any environmental or social related claims can be verified.

  • EarthCheck is an accredited certification specifically for sustainable travel and tourism.

    An EarthCheck accredited travel business indicates that they have been through a science backed and people focused rigorous sustainability process which enables you to make more informed decisions about your travel choices.

  • Our carbon footprint is the total amount of greenhouse gases that our personal or business actions create. Greenhouse Gases include carbon dioxide and methane, and are measured in tonnes.

    Excess carbon dioxide in the atmosphere needs to be balanced and controlled. In nature, this is carried out by trees and plants who absorb carbon dioxide and is known as drawdown.

    Projects focused on conservation and biodiversity help to provide environments and ecosystems that help to support this delicate balance.
